Each week, we will be featuring one of the great therapists at The Live Well Centre. A little insight into what they do, but maybe more importantly why they do it. This week we feature Niamh Nicholas, our Movement Specialist and Exercise Therapist.
Movement Specialist/Group Fitness Instructor
Why did you choose to be involved in the Fitness/Wellness Industry?
I’ve always been active and played sports which led me to have a passion for leading a healthy lifestyle. After a road accident in 2011 that resulted in a few weeks in hospital, exercise became a huge part of my life on my road to recovery. I was amazed to see how my body reacted and this started my interest to find out more about how the body works and how it responds to exercise and movement, that’s when I went and studied in the field and I haven’t looked back since.
What thrills you the most/gives you the most passion about what you do?
I love to help people move better. Simple exercises and postural tweaks make a massive impact on people’s daily lives.
What sort of specialties or techniques do you use that set you apart?
I have a heavy focus on posture, mobility and functional movements. I believe you have to have the basics intact before anything else.
What are your goals/vision for your clients/patients that see you?
My end goal for every patient is to see them enjoying life in their healthiest form
What is the best part of working at The Live Well Centre?
It’s great here! We have chiropractic care, naturopathic care, massage therapy and exercise therapy. There are no egos here all the practitioners inspire each other and work together to help the patient reach their wellness goals. There is a great sense of community at the Live Well Centre and I love that ☺
Favorite thing to do in your free-time?
Working out, watching movies, having a drink with friends and family, relaxing with my fiancé and puppy!
Anything else that we should know about you, professionally or not?
I’m from Limerick in Ireland where I played the piano and the sax and I had a stint as an Irish dancer!(until they told me I was too tall and my feet were too big ☹)I’ve been on the road for awhile, I lived in South Korea for three years, Greece and Australia for a year, travelled Asia for a few months and now here I am in Kingston!
