Planks are a staple core strengthening exercise. Having adequate core strength is essential for everything we do; without proper core stability our spines end up in really rough shape. Keep your core strong and stable with planks! Use a stopwatch to track your progress.
How do I do Them??
Start on your hands and knees and lower onto your forearms. Press one leg back onto your toes, then the other. You are now in a plank position. Squeeze your bum and quadriceps slightly to keep your hips in neutral position, and keep your head in line with your spine. Don’t allow the shape of your spine to change; if your hips dip or your bum raises up towards the sky your core muscles are too tired to keep going! Lower down, breathe deep and relax for 10 to 30 seconds before starting again.
